Equipment & Gear
All student athletes are required to supply their own shotgun and must use factory ammunition. (Ammunition is donated by local organizations). All types of smooth-bore shotguns, including semi-automatics, may be used provided their caliber does not exceed 12-gauge. Guns of smaller than 12 gauge may be used. About 80% of participants use 12-gauge shotguns. Most other athletes use a 20-gauge shotgun. Athletes are also required to wear proper eye and ear protection while on any part of the shooting range. Each athlete will also promote a positive image by wearing appropriate attire during all shooting events.
Events
A practice or competition event will consist of shooting two 25 target rounds for a total of 50 targets from the 16-yard station. Up to 5 shooters (squad) will occupy the stations on a trap field. Events (practice or competition) can be scheduled up to twice a week for the team as long as a coach and Range Safety Officer are present.
Do I need a Firearms Safety Certificate to participate in the League?
Yes. Any state-issued firearms safety/hunter education certificate is allowed. Registrants will need to enter or provide the coach the certificate number to register a student athlete.
What if I don’t have my student’s Firearms Safety Certificate when I register?
You will have two options to enter a student’s firearms safety certificate number.
1. Registrants can enter their certificate number at the time of registration.
2. Registrants can complete the registration without a certification number and select the option to have the coach enter it before the deadline. Firearms safety certificate numbers must be given to your coach so they can update the number in the Team Management System prior to 4/2/16. Athletes who are missing their Firearms Safety Certificate on 4/2/16 will automatically be removed from the roster and will not be allowed to participate in the current season.
How much does the League registration fee cost?
$35 This is only the fee that is due directly to the League. Any team fees, such as ammunition, local shooting range costs, uniforms, gear, etc, are paid separately to your team. Please contact your coach for specific team participation fee information. Registrants will also have an opportunity to make a donation to the League during the registration process to help support and grow youth shooting sports.
Will I be required to pay during the registration process?
Registrants may pay their fees online during the registration process (preferred)
OR
Registrants may pay their fees later by having an email sent to the confirmation email address that was entered during the registration process.
**Note that your registration is not complete until successful payment has been made. Payment must be made on or before 3/15/17.
